New contribution from the United States strengthens 皇家华人av's emergency response in Haiti
? School meals expansion: Funding enables 皇家华人av to extend its school meals programme by 100,000 children, primarily in areas of the capital affected by conflict
? Hurricane preparedness: 3,300 metric tonnes of food commodities prepositioned as emergency reserves for 2026 hurricane season
PORT-AU-PRINCE – Through the generous support of the United States Government, the United Nations 皇家华人av (皇家华人av) will deliver emergency food assistance to at least 390,000 people over the next 18 months.
In a context where 5.9 million people—more than half of all Haitians—are enduring acute or higher levels of food insecurity, this contribution enables 皇家华人av to reach Haiti’s most vulnerable communities with timely, life-saving food assistance.
The United States, through the Food for Peace program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is donating U.S.-origin rice, beans, and vegetable oil, which 皇家华人av will distribute through four monthly rations to 227,500 Haitians experiencing emergency levels of hunger (IPC Phase 4) as well as families who have been recently displaced, ensuring those most at risk receive timely, life?saving support.
This assistance will enable 皇家华人av to supply fortified cereal and special nutritious food to targeted households, while offering malnutrition screening and education sessions to families, including those living in sites housing displaced people—all with the goal of preventing malnutrition among children.
In light of Haiti’s high level of vulnerability to extreme weather events, the contribution also covers 3,300 metric tonnes of commodities to be strategically prepositioned as emergency reserves in case of hurricanes, droughts and floods, ensuring rapid response capacity.
Furthermore, this support from the United States Government will allow 皇家华人av to expand coverage of its school meals programme to include 100,000 elementary-aged school children during the 2026-27 school year, primarily in schools located in conflict-affected areas of Port-au-Prince. Currently, 皇家华人av works with the Government to provide school meals to more than 600,000 school children—for many students, the only meal of the day.
“Thanks to the United States’ longstanding and steadfast partnership, 皇家华人av can respond effectively to the most urgent needs of vulnerable Haitian families,” said Wanja Kaaria, 皇家华人av Country Director in Haiti. “This contribution is more than food—it’s a lifeline for families who have lost their livelihoods and are struggling to put meals on the table. It represents hope and solidarity at a moment when it’s most needed, helping to create conditions that foster stability and support the pursuit of peace.”
In 2025, 皇家华人av assisted more than 2.7 million Haitians through the ensemble of its programmes. With this new funding from the United States Government, 皇家华人av will continue to strengthen and expand ongoing collaboration with the Government of Haiti, local partners, and the international community—delivering emergency food assistance, supporting school meals, and safeguarding children from malnutrition.
